SM/USUM did attempt to improve on the Pokemon formula with emphasis on more memorable characters and plotlines, and the addition of trials, but all their decisions were safe, lackluster, poorly implemented, or a combination of the three. If you had any judgement, taste, or a high school part time job to allow you to play more games than the yearly Pokemon release, you would realize that the other nominees blow Pokemon out of the water. Even if they didn't, USUM doesn't deserve a nomination for the sole reason that it is a near replica of a game released last year.
