Well, it's been a few days, but time to own up...after my text rumor fizzled out, I began to work on another rumor, this time enlisting the aid of a few friends to create a visual rumor, as well as get it to spread through 2chan first instead of beginning with 4chan.
It cost me quite a bit of money to pull it off, as I had to print that fake poster out on a poster board (which unfortunately got dirty and scratched when transporting it from the print shop, but I'd spent enough money that I didn't care and thought it might make it seem more authentic). I then thought that having a second source would help the believability, so, I created a design and then ironed it onto a large t-shirt using an old "t-shirt kit!" I got for my birthday a few years ago.
I got lucky that Smash made that announcement, because I started working on it before it was made, but it fit perfectly with my fake.
