I'm seriously thinking they had internal design guidelines about Pokemon's eyes that they started to ignore in Gen 8. There's something about Fakemon eyes that always looked wrong when compared to official designs, and official designs felt like they had good and fitting eye designs all the way up to Gen 7. Then something broke in Gen 8 and suddenly official Pokemon started having the Fakemon eye problem.
