I haven’t played Scarlet and Violet, but from what I’ve gleaned, it seems glaringly obvious that the Paradox Pokémon are not what they seem – that is, ancestors or descendants of the Pokémon they resemble – and that something is unusual about them in regard to normal Pokémon. Maybe I will be proven wrong in the future, but as of right now, I don’t see how anyone could genuinely believe that Paradox Pokémon are the actual relatives of the Pokémon they resemble, and I also believe that anyone who asserts such is probably trolling. It’s pretty easy to tell that there are people who don’t want Paradox Pokémon to be legitimate ancestors or evolutionary endpoints for their favorite Pokémon, either because they don’t like the designs or they think that the idea is stupid – I’d wager both reasons overlap more often than not –. So, of course, these people would cling to the “Imagination Theory” because it de-legitimizes Paradox Pokémon in a way that they can still enjoy them. I figure “Time travel believers” or whatever you call them (I like “trolls”) are just tapping that desperation to cause frustration.
The problem is, divorced from the desperation of its proponents, the Imagination Theory is really solid and is probably what is actually going on. Any other monster-taming, collecting, or battling franchise fanbase would probably recognize this for what it is, but c’est la vie; here we are, on /vp/.
