You said Serena just treats Fennekin like an accessory, which is why she never used in intense sequences like Clemont and Ash, yet in this episode she realized how much Fennekin has protected her and how it isn't an accessory, but a friend that is willing to fight in order to protect her. She then took matters into her own hands and went in to save Fennekin, knowing Team Rocket were attacking her. Like anon said above, she did the exact same thing Ash did back in the Pangoro episode. The most Serena has ever done before this episode was be the little princess that Ash/Fennekin had to save when the going gets tough
