The enemy is super passive in the tutorial story. They get much more aggressive in the individual stories you unlock afterwards and will constantly pester you. However, they won't invade for the first few months before the "elderly gentlemen" appears, so that gives you a bit of prep time.
Getting perfect links also helps. I got the perfect link for nearly every warrior because I'm fucking autistic.
My biggest tip is to EVOLVE YOUR POKEMON because it breaks the fucking game. Levels don't carry over through each story, but evolutions and Pokemon do, so after a while you can effectively start each campaign with fully evolved Pokemon while the rest of the kingdoms are stuck with first stages for the first couple years.
