Right now anything besides the FOTM cards goes for literal pennies, but that's because everyone is opening packs. But the less people open them, the less the market is flooded with the commons. Even "better," if we're going off of "everyone who was opening packs is now buying singles," the demand for singles is much higher too. So there's pressure from both directions driving up the price. Supply is down, demand is up, so prices rise.
This is the ideal economic dynamic, of course. Pure "Supply & Demand." In reality, of course, things would be much wilder. After all, people aren't rational, and even on top of that, you can see shit like how the full art waifu cards go for much higher than the other cards of the same rarity purely for being waifu cards. "Rational" is doing a lot of work here.
