OP is technically correct, considering how humans treat most pokemon they would be seen as animals to some extent, that doesn't make it right though. Pokemon have displayed sentience, sapience, share a universe language among each other, and even make advanced technology, they can pass the "Harkness Test" as well. So while yeah it might be seen like a romantic relationship with your dog, Pokemon are a lot more than dogs (a lot more than any animal in reality), so its not really wrong.
