I like to headcanon that Lance was very ambitious as a child and he was just abnormally naturally talented with Dragons and everyone in his clan praised him and treated him as a prodigy, and that caused Claire to develop her inferiority complex towards him. But even though Claire (still) has those negative feelings towards him, they’re still very close with each other and Claire is probably the only person in his life he can openly talk to, because he knows she won’t hold back and will tell him the truth. In return, Lance doesn’t mind putting up with her more dramatic tendencies, and he even finds it endearing in a very “Claire way”.
Lance, despite being famous everywhere and having a legion of fans, is a born introvert, and real friendships and relationships don’t come easy with him. That’s also due to the fact that he’s always busy, and his duty as a Champion and desire to protect others (I like to headcanon that he regularly helps Interpol and knows Looker and Anabel) always come first. As a result, Lance doesn’t have many people he can trust, and often feels really lonely. He’s that guy who is charming and respectful and will always help you, but emotionally he is a bit guarded and one would find it difficult to really get to know him. I think he would deep down resent the fact that people always put him on a pedestal and treated him differently for it.
Lance cares a lot about his image though, and he will always have that child like fascination with dragons and really cool and flashy things. Which is kind of dorky! I also think he’s a really festive person, like he’s that kind of guy who gets a really cool and expensive costume for Halloween just so the kids can look up to him and be the “cool dad/mentor guy”
Sorry again for the autism, I just love Lance a lot and I like to think about more emotional/introspective sides of him which we don’t see in canon.
