They didn't, thus if they revisit Johto, it's more than likely they remake it akin to LGPE and have new MC's and the OG cast as endgame bosses.
There's also this which is the only realistic leak I've seen, because it didn't seem to be a wishlist written by some 20-25 year old desperate for his childhood to be treated as special. And that smacks of adapting LGPE's GO connectivity out while keeping the premise. But sure, we'll wait and see. Don't bother bitching if they show off new MC's, you'll know I told you.
