The idea that Pokemon gave the GameBoy a second life is often repeated, but there does seem to be a lot of truth to it. Picrel is from Masakazu Kubo's book about the early Pokemon corporate strategy. As the guy at ShoPro in charge of the anime, manga, etc., Kubo has a vested interest in attributing the success of Pokemon and the GameBoy to the anime and such, but the numbers themselves paint a compelling picture. Even having lived through Pokemania, the scale of things that happened at this point is just impossible to wrap my mind around.
