I would suggest expanding the land mass available for the town so it doesn't feel so cramped. Using that space, throw in some things to help make the town feel unique, like people live there. A simple path between buildings, a garden, a berry patch to give players a reason to revisit every so often, some things to hide items in, etc.
In addition, as another anon mentioned, make the beach a bit more "rounded", or as close as the GBA tiles allow. Being the starting town, the beach probably doesn't have to be huge anyway.
