Tyranitar was my favorite Pokemon going into XY, and Dragon Quest was/is my favorite video game series. Mega Tyranitar looked like it took a lot of inspiration from the final boss of Dragon Quest 4 and it's still only my 4th favorite design from XY.

Because Speed Boost doesn't break shit like Ninjask, Sharpedo, or Scolipede so why fuck those 'mons over to get rid of one Bad EGG?
They could've just banned the Speed Boost + Blaziken combo but then there's some autism about that leading to 'mon + move combos down the road.
