i thought i'd hate it more than i did when i heard ash was gonna lose. but going by the idea shown in origins that gym leaders vary their strength based on what they know about you, you could say alexa pwned him because he was being cocky and deserved to be taught a lesson, which makes his loss a little easier to swallow (yes, i know this is just headcannon and he probably was just reset as usual). at least serena still wants fokko
