It kind suffers from "it just get's bigger" syndrome, but I'm not very creative.
The idea was that it walks through the muck and mud keeping it's tail clean above, to help attract prey. It's back and top of it's head stays above sort of like a crocodile, so it looks like it's just moss on the mud, so it can ambush prey like you said.
