I like it for the visual aspects mostly, I think. Especially with firered/leafgreen, the game looks perfect for a gameboy game, and all the sprites look just right. I like how you explore the world in-game, I like the battle system, learning moves, the names of the moves.
I even just really like the premise of roving around and capturing/battling with monsters.
TLDR - purty visuals and nerdy system
