I remember first seeing hoothoot on a cereal box, seeing Gen 2 promo cards in the quarter vending machines. Me and my friends at school showing eachother the new cards and getting the toys and seeing the new Pokémon in the anime, and watching Pokémon 2000 for the first time. You’d have to live through that time period as a kid to know. As kids, we didn’t see the glaring flaws of the bad level curve, the low level trainers and gym leaders, and the weird distribution of Pokémon. We didn’t think of Pokémon battling as “tiers”. Pokémon Gold and Silver WAS and still IS the ultímate. New region, new Pokémon, new adventure, and finally culminating to exploring Kanto and beating Red that blew my mind. Pokémon was what it was meant to be: An adventure as a trainer to become the champion and complete the Pokédex. You can call it nostalgia goggles or whatever else, those memories will always be cherished because it was absolutely great to experience it all for the first time. And that’s all that matters
