Notice how when other people were in charge of art direction, nobody ever blamed them for things they didn't like. People weren't going "Ew! Sugimori made the boring gears!" even though he quite literally did. Nobody blames Unno or Atsuko Ujiie for the 3D graphics and models they complain about. But when a British man is suddenly the art director? EVERYTHING is because of him. Every graphic, every bit of art, every character and pokemon, all the game mechanics - L'il Jimmy did it!
