>>32942859I like it because it forces me to play more carefully. That "bond with your pokemon" thing is usually a load of crap because you're more likely to only use common pokemon that you've already used before. I was lucky to find a Solrock which I friggin' love now. Despite being weak to most of the E4, I'm still bringing it because it fucks Drake up.
I've also come to respect interesting/unexpected sets from the game but shit like Night Slash spam or Selfdestruct are rage-inducing. There's the obvious solution of overgrinding your team so they don't even die to crits but you should aim to have a pretty good idea of what level your pokemon should be to have a fairly "even" fight (think of gym leaders as checkpoints). This makes playing a new game blind a little trickier sometimes but I think it's a lot more fun.
Also, romhacks are the devil. They're where the "non-stop grinding" mentality comes from.
