>>24844031okay im going to teach you a trick. memorize this for later.
here's how you identify lines that can be solved from a blank slate. all it takes is some very easy math. lets start with that 1 1 1 5 1 1 2 row near the middle.
the first thing you do is add everything up.
1+1+1+5+1+1+2=12
now the next thing you want to do is count how many spaces are between the numbers and add those up too. we can do this by looking at how many addition symbols there are.
1+1+1+5+1+1+2
There are 6. another way of looking at it is to count how many numbers there are and subtract 1.
now you add this number to our other number
12+6=18.
18 is the number we need. this number tells us what the minimum length of the line is. we take this number and subtract it from the length of the row. the row is 20 tiles long.
20-18=2
2 is the number we need. what do we do with it? well, any number in the hint that is greater than this number can be placed using the overlap method youre probably very familiar with by now. the 5 is the only number here that fits this category. how do we use it?
you star by counting out the line. 1, then x, then 1, then x, then 1, then x. now youre at the 5. you count out 2 spaces, aka the 20-18 we got above. then, the next 3 spaces will be true. that's where the 5 goes. pic related is what itll look like.
i know this seems stupidly complicated, but trust me when i say as a picross veteran that once you learn this formula you can easily check lines in 2 seconds in your head using this method, and its WAY faster than manually counting out each tile on the screen. learn it.
