I realized why the removal of elements post Generation 5 is so infuriating to people

Between Generations 1 to 4, elements of play came and went.
>Day/Night
>Animated Sprites
>Post-game extensions
>Contests
>interactive events
None of that upset people as much as recent stuff's removal has, and that's because it's not just elements of the overworld, but core parts of the actual combat.
Sure people miss
>Safari Zone
>Game Corner
>Seasons
>Battle Frontiers
But those aren't affecting the core elements of the game.
>EV training minigames
>Mega Pokemon
>Z Moves
>Regional Forms
Those have impactful places in the game proper, both casual and competitive, and Generation 7's set a dangerous precedent with no new Megas. If whole cloth parts of the core combat can and will be abandoned as a generational quirk, then the meta will be more and more left in the ripple effects of such a decision. Generation 8 has given no indication, albiet's early presence, that Regional Forms or Z Moves, let alone Megas, are coming back, and worse the logo implies some other weird gimmick. This would be fine if not for the precedent set; are whole concepts going to be made compartively more and more OP to compensate every generation to be discarded for something new?
Will Gamefreak realize what they've done with Megas, Regionals and Z Moves and properly approach updating and expanding their roles in the game, or will they just be another generational forgotten element?
