The real reason gen 5 suffers is because the region is a giant fuckin circle with zero exploration with WAY too many big empty bridges and the story shot itself in the dick right at the end when Ghetsis was cliche evil. Also at this point sprites had overstayed their welcome and breeding mechanics were in desperate need of overhaul.

Gen 6 was a good gen overall and I have complaints about it aside from the fact that it never got a third version and they clearly left a good chunk of the game in the cutting room floor. That said it introduced a TON of much needed mechanical changes like breeding, the best multi-player of any gen, 3D, and customization.
