Ash is the main character if the whole fucking show, so of course all the good things happen to him. If Paul was dumber than Ash, Paul wouldn't have beaten him numerous times in the past. Hell if Ash used his brain at all he would have used Pokemon he previously caught in Hoenn or Johto or Kanto against Paul. But this is Ash were talking about here. "N-No!
