Mechanics don't even try to explains themselves, there are many nitpicky rulings (which you also can't learn in the west because there is no ruling database and no comprehensive rulebook) and the game as a whole is just a little too self-contained due to archetypes which can wildly change how mechanics are played, and even worse can actively hide these changes from you until they are too late.
I love Yu-Gi-Oh but I have spent literally decades playing the game, learning its rulings and spending years at a time with each mechanic released. I cannot fathom trying to learn Yu-Gi-Oh physically, especially when the game can't be bothered enough to actually update their rulebook to reflect the current rules of the game (that is, if they actually give you a rulebook since they haven't given one out with a deck in over 5 years)
