Considering the last two gym leaders reduced my starter to 3 HP and 1 HP respectively, I'd rather have quilava ride the bench this time.
I got Magikarp by fishing in Union Cave before my first random encounter there. Hopefully Gyrados will be ready to go by the time I hit Eckruteak. I passed up a rock type for this guy!
