But it's not only Tanaka that fills the slots of my favourite TCG artwork. For example this Larvitar, by some Hironobu Yoshida, really appeals to me with its trembling traces and the fact that we don't quite see it in its entirety. Is it looking at us from above? Is it behind a half-bitten rock or wall? Is it just a reflect in a pond, and WE ARE THAT LARVITAR, like those feet suggest? I spent quite some time as a stupid kid pondering just that until I reached that conclusion, and now so did you. The fact that it's looking at us so damn sexily is a plus, too.
