>>56835149I guess I'm just not convinced this is the best way. If this new take on Pokemon is a popular, shouldn't it be successful enough for them to spend out on the best possible animation? It'd be great if Pokemon could join the conversation when it comes to what great anime came out in a year, and I don't think there's any valid reason why that shouldn't be the case beyond a lack of ambition.
Alternatively, since this is a new canon away from Ash shit, why do they need to pump it out? They're not even close to being concurrent with the games anymore. They're giving us character debuts from a DLC that came out like fifteen months ago. If anipoke went seasonal, they could create something actually amazing and cohesive. I'm baffled at how bad the episodes have looked lately, because I'm not seeing the incentive to rush these out? The demand can't be that high, and there's hardly any parity with the game releases anymore, from story to content.
I'm completely on board with anything new with Pokemon. I want Liko's show to be incredible and I want whatever comes next to be even better than that. But on a production level, Horizons feels really unambitious. From like, 2013-2020, I would often be pleasantly surprised by fun, expressive animation cuts in 'unimportant' episodes of Pokemon, but Horizons is definitely more a case of only saving it for episodes where it 'matters'. I get a little hung up on the notion that an entire stretch of episodes can just be visually boring in every way and that's okay because the 'cool' episodes are gonna have all the good animation. I don't really watch Pokemon for crazy story payoffs, so gimping the regular outings so that the payoff episodes will look better doesn't sit as well with me. I'm definitely hoping the current arc is just an isolated incident, because everything since Kitakami has been roooough.
Really hoping they go seasonal someday, I love Pokemon, but weekly hasn't been pleasing me for a long time.
