>go to a random route
>check dex to see if a dog is there
>leave and come back until there's one there
>slowly wittle it down, getting in one or two hits before it wakes up and flees
>finally when they're almost dead, start throwing ultra balls
>can only throw one or two before they wake up and flee
>at exactly 1 hp and asleep, there is 6.25% chance of capture

How in the fuck does anyone have the patience to do this three times, let alone once? Even with savestates it's annoying as fuck. Now that I know the technique and the math, I finally get why none of my friends or I were ever able to catch a single one when we were kids.
