He's a shit trainer, the only reason he ever wins is because he's the main character and the plot says so.
Outside of his group of friends, what is he ever praised for? What do his rivals say about him, outsiders unrelated to him? What makes him so great? His, uhh, his bond with his pokemon! His, erm, his love for adventure! It's all the same non-answers. His competence is suspect, especially because every fucking season all ounces of experience he's ever earned go right out the window. Either he's been deliberately sandbagging for two decades now, or he suffers from genuine brain damage.
Ash is a shit trainer and yes, PokeSpe protagonists are all leagues better.
