I would like to share my thoughts and concerns about the Pokémon franchise. As a Christian, I believe it is our duty to be mindful of the media we consume and to examine it in light of God's word.
The Bible tells us, 'Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable - if anything is excellent or praiseworthy - think about such things.' (Philippians 4:8) The Pokémon franchise, with its themes of violence and exploitation, fails to meet these criteria.
I understand that many people enjoy playing the games and watching the cartoons, but I cannot ignore the fact that they depict creatures being captured and made to fight sometimes against their will. The book of Proverbs says, 'A righteous man cares for the needs of his animal.' (Proverbs 12:10) Yet in the world of Pokémon, creatures are treated as mere objects, to be used and abused for human gain.
Additionally, the concept of evolution, which is a key part of the Pokémon franchise, is at odds with the biblical account of creation. In Genesis, we read that God created the world and all living creatures, including humans, in six days.
As Christians, we must be discerning and intentional in our media choices. While the Pokémon franchise may be entertaining, it does not align with our values and beliefs. Instead, let us focus on things that bring us closer to God and reflect His love and grace to the world.
