No and yes.
What I’m most dissapointed in is the lack of immersion I feel. Thanks to lackluster customization and a story that pretty much guarantees you being locked in playing as an 11 year old fighting an evil team, it never really feels like “my” adventure. Pokemon is supposed to be universal, for all ages, so why am I stuck watching a tutorial on how to catch Pokemon when I’ve been doing it since I was 4 years old? Why are the Pokemon I spent hours raising from tediously bred eggs disobeying me when I port them over?
There is no reason they can’t have features that are tailor made for veteran trainers.
Another thing is that the stories have gone off the rails and are suffocated by cutscenes every ten steps. Pure monotany. This is not nitpicking, its fact. Replaying Sun and Moon/USUM in particular is a chore I would never do again and thats sad considering I can play through a game like Crystal multiple times over my life more fondly each time.
The big thing I think they’re doing right, however, is the weirdness of the Pokemon themselves. Z-Crystals, Megas, Eldritch monsters from portals, all of it fels fun and new.
Enthralling customization and skippable cutscenes are a must though, until then the games themselves are half baked.
