Previously, while exploring a haunted mansion, you rescued a Helioptile from a guardian Golurk, and managed to defeat a Chandelure and Litwick, freeing a captive Noibat (all the while shifting forms to various different characters due to a curse). Despite your victory, Golurk has tracked you down, aiming to recapture everyone. You fled into the next room for safety.
