I think Infernape and Greninja are essentially the same pokemon when it comes down to fighting styles and whatnot, so it's a good pairing for Ash. He definitely leans towards the fast and furious, which makes Goodra an even stupider choice.
Anyway, those 4 alone could have swept Alan. He's got enough choices past those 4 power houses that would destroy any league. Particularly if he evolved the Gible.
Those level assessments might even be lowballing the pokemon. Wasn't Red's whole team in HGSS in their late 70s/early 80s?
