>Trainers, specifically the gym leaders, have pokemon that aren't the same type as their designated gym but they are geared towards the gym's type offensive coverage or specifically have direct ways to mitigate their weaknesses
Yes we're going into Sinnoh's elite 4 fire nonsense here with this one
>Trainer AI that lets them switch mons to something that resists your shit
Hell, have the trainers be allowed to not go by Set mode rules when they beat one of your mons, if you switch in something they can switch out too just so Set and Switch modes have clear differences
>Ban the fuck out of revive items in battles
In a dream scenario i'd limit revives to not be sold in shops and instead be like a less rare Gold nugget but nah.
>Whatever generational gimmick there is, trainers can unleash anew tenfold on your ass
Just imagine a route master that baton passes shit into a Mega evolution that has near perfect coverage
>Take environmental limitations to in-game battles
Sure it might be artificial difficulty but just imagine facing one of the Evil Team members that has a steel typed team but he knows you can't do shit about them lest you risk burning whatever garden you're on with powerful fire-type attacks so you're more or less forced to keep the weaker moves in hand. I liked that type of gimmick from BW(2)'s battle train
>More unique challenge gimmicks in general
Like just imagine if you were forced to beat a trainer in X number of turns or some more double battle focus or even just expanding the horde encounters by having long endurance modes where you get ganked by multiple trainers and you gotta deal with up to 6 targets at once. This could make people be creative with their team structures
>IV's and EV's in general being more prevalent
Now i am not asking for full on smogon sets with perfect stats in the first gym but just something that feels naughty good. Could take a hint from Clover with Carlito's boss fight for trainers with repeated pokemons.
