Genwunner here who hasn't kept up to date with nintendo products. So I just got my first 3ds from a guy on craigslist and I'm trying to set everything up. Got it hooked up to wifi and I'm learning about all these new services that have been created over the year.
So the 3Ds the guy sold me is running an older software, ver 11.0.0.0-33U. What he told me is that people want this version for something related to ROMs I believe. I'm familiar a bit with ROMs from wanting to nostalgia play some of my games a few years ago, but I was completely lost with whatever the guy was explaining to me about what his 3ds had on it (I just wanted the hardware, all the extra software was a bonus).
Q1) The guy told me not to update my system if I wanted to be able to use this extra software, could anyone help me figure out what exactly I got and if I should update?
Q2) What is a pokemon bank and is it still active? (seems like a lot of the pokemon stuff I read about has been discontinued, à la dream world)
Q2a) What was dream world and does nintendo just chronically shut off services like that?
Q3) If I want to use poke bank do I need to update it and can I do that without updating my system software?
