>>48131108Make megas a staple, but take away all the OP ones and just give megas to shitmons and such for the sake of balance. Adjust the lore to remove all the pain and suffering and spin it so it's more like an extra burst of effort for your Pokemon since they know they're not the best but still want to help. Max forms go away forever (except for as boss fights in the eventual gen 8 remakes. You don't get to use them yourself), Z moves are gone, I always hated having a one-shot instakill button.
Retconning Mega forms as something more of like an adrenaline rush for the underdogs also means there can be more of that BEST FWIENDS FOWEVER schtick that most of the franchise revolves around, and it should help get more Pokemon viable for things.
(Also, if they're only exclusively given to garbage-tier shitmons, maybe it can be a permanent upgrade? Go do some simple-ass sidequest thing, unlock the form for your buddy and always have access to it without having to hold an item?)
