XY tends to be lumped with ORAS which was the actual bad game of Gen 6.
I think XY suffered from having their development cycle shortened because of BW2, and it was rushed because of it.
I think they took care of a lot of these "little details" such as imprinting some personality in the Amie animations, but the pacing and difficulty were its main weak points.
I wonder what would have happened if they saved some of the development time spent on BW2 to be used on XY.
