Pokemon are dangerous in this world. You think that gamefreak would make a game where the story is that if you fail, you, a CHILD, a literal 10 year old child would be exiled to the forest full of horrific abominations of nature only seen in the realm of fever dreams waiting to feast on your flesh?
Being 15 just makes more sense given the responsibility and weight of your actions early on.
