>>37011032It goes a little further than just "muh frontier", and it was less a criticism of XY, the actual gen VI titles, and more towards ORAS, which were comparatively stripped down.
On a positive note, we got the Delta Episode. That was great, but it was about the only strong point for ORAS, aside from the new megas and I guess some of the redesigns, if that's your thing. I wasn't fond of the new Shelly, myself.
What made ORAS such a disappointment was just the general lack of post-game challenges. Or, the lack of anything interesting, really. We got a copypaste of the Battle Maison and they left it at that. Gamefreak had never been this outright lazy before, so it was something of a shock. Worse still, they taunted us with that whole "BATTLE FRONTIER COMING SOON" display in the game. How were we supposed to feel?
But honestly, I could have forgiven that, if they had left character customization in. Character customization is by far one of the most popular new features the series had, and they just up and left it out altogether in ORAS. Worse still, they didn't even patch the new items, megas, and moves into XY, despite the fact that they could have done so easily. So we couldn't even migrate back to XY when we were done with ORAS to have our shiny new toys with our custom characters that we'd gotten attached to. I waited almost two years hoping for a Z version to be announced just so I could go back to Kalos fashion just once more before gen VII. There was nothing better than being able to battle people with a nice team and the avatar I Wanted.
Instead, we got Sun and Moon which replaced all that nice, varied clothing with endless different patterns of the same tacky summer/tropical wear and a cancerous dye system that I couldn't even be bothered with.
I want to say gen VI was "great", but really, it was XY that was "great" while ORAS was "disappointing". And it always will be, because it came after HGSS which far exceeded expectations for a remake.
