He'd pretty much human sized, so he can go virtually anywhere with me. But if he were Protean, that means he could be whichever type it wants, which would be very useful:
It can create water when in need to wash stuff or in a deserted land to save you from dying of thirst; it can start a campfire for outside expeditions; charge up your electric devices; make pranks on unsuspecting bystanders with its ghost-type; hell, it can pretty much fly and travel quickly to take you wherever you need.
It can also cut through STEEL with mere water; is increadibly fast and sneaky for covert or stealth related activities, has a multi-fuctional, mile-long tongue to bind suspects or catch you from falling off cliffs like a retard.
It would be one of the top 5 most helpful and useful pokemon there is.
