>>41408915That's a good point i didn't think about. I think Hop wanted to prove to everyone he's as promising as his older bro, maybe having a lot of insecurities at the beginning bc of Leon. He thought he could be better than you (having already a Pokemon, reading all the books and mags possible and being the lil bro of THE galar champion) but felt behind really quickly. He kept bugging us to show his progress and even doubted a lot later in the game, changing team compo and such.
I don't think he's that badly written and i hope Hop constantly mentioning us as his rival and the Gala champion's brother is to show he, who thought may be the next champion, is only a side character who can't do nothing to help until post-game. I mean, he does call himself (you)r rival but at the beginning of the game he calls (you) his rival, showing how confident he was about himself. The contast is interesting.
Sorry for sperging but yeah he wasn't that bad imo. Hau is adorable but i really wish there was more character to him.
