Thunder Fang provides best coverage on things that resist your main STAB/coverage moves like Skarmory and defensive Gyarados. Thunder Fang OHKO's Gyarados and 2HKO's (lolsturdy) Skarmory. That's a pretty big deal for a coverage unSTAB'd move to O/2HKO some of the bulkiest Pokémon in the metagame.
