Gamefreak did nearly nothing to continue fanning the flames of fandom in the latter years and it still remained the most popular starter. It's only logical that they'd give the thing the duble mega privilege and other fancy shit to give the autistically loyal and inmense fanbase a bone. Do you also get mad when snack flavors that end up popular start amassing bulk to appease the wants of consumers?
Just let it happen. Greninja is the unexpected miracle of a pokemon becoming wildly popular on its own terms more than a decade after the series passed its prime.
Even though, to be honest, popularity doesn't mean jack-shit. At least it's better that getting another BORN TO BE BIG furbait with Movies and Legendary status in their name before they even debut in-game.
