Nowadays unless I have a false swiper on the team I never even touch a shiny and instead just paralyze it/put it to sleep and throw a Quick ball followed by Ultra then Timer balls until the little shit gets in.
Exceptions to this are mons with absurdly low catch rates of course, in which a False Swiper is mandatory (otherwise hope for no crits with weaker moves).
