>>32196298>Reddit is fine as long as you stick to smaller subreddits. This is no longer valid. A Few months ago, we were given concrete proof that not only do corporations frequently game reddit, but that in fact, it dose not stick to the big subreddits like gaming and politics.
And not only that, it's cheaper to game the smaller subreddits. If I want my cancerous T-Shirt for say, Pikachu doing some CRAZY THING XD that Pikachu aren't supposed to do, to sell well, all I need to do is find a few specific small subreddits, post the shirt, buy say, 700 upvotes from Upvote Inc, and I guarantee, the Profit - cost of the shirt- cost of advertising >0, because of how fucking bandwagonish reddit it (A good example is the glitter envelope bullshit).
The conditions that you want a content aggregate site to work under are simply impossible. You want each Upvote to be representative of an organic positive interest and every down vote to represent either spam indication or very poor content.
What you get however, once a site has achieved a particular population and influence, are larger entities who essentially wish to control what media the average person partakes in, and abusing a the voting system is the best way to do it.
