You can see it as being limited, but the other person was taking it to an even weirder step while acting like walking Pokemon is infinitely better when the same argument can be made against it ("it's the same text, there's no variety")
I do agree about nature affecting personality \, though, it would be nice if they reacted differently to the food. Like if they don't like spicy pokepuffs and would react disgusted if fed it, but I think what really happens in Amie now is the Pokemon lets out one heart instead of three.
