I actually liked the smaller Region Dexes, for both Kalos and Alola. They feel a bit more thoughtful. Like most Pokemon from those Gens have some kind of gimmick or Ability that sets them apart. I remember Vivillon because of the different patterns being generated across different continents. Talonflame because of Gale Wings. Aegislash because of Stance Change/King's Shield. Oricorio's Dancing Ability. Pex's Baneful Bunker. The UBs and their wonderfully stupid Beast Boosts. etc, etc.
10 years on and I still struggle to remember half the Unova 'mons or what they do. Bigger isn't always better.
