>>54687677>it is not an animal + elementYour post is focusing on the element being "fire," but you're forgetting that "dark" is an element too and when you take that into consideration Houndoom is literally just animal + element - Doberman pinscher + dark. I would have like a more ambiguous dark/fire type than just a generic demon animal. Contrast your design analysis with Slowpoke/Slowbro, or Abra/Kadabra. Although you may prefer Houndoom, they are two examples of pokemon that go beyond "animal + element" where Houndoom certainly does not. Houndoom is mid for me, but I think the appeal for him is moreso just straight "coolness" in a pokemon design rather than any uniqueness or creativity of the design.
