On face value Lysandre's plan to wipe out most of the population to preserve resources and preserve the Earth's natural "beauty" is kinda of on the same level as Thanos from Infinity War - albeit his writing was a LOT less dumb down for kids; but looking from Lysandre's prospective, as in the position he's in a in as a character, kinda opened my eyes as to why he started Team Flare in the first place.
I always thought of Lysandre as a very rich and charitable businessman. He's not apathetic and emotionless like Cyrus, nor is he a ruthless and cunning tyrant like Ghetsis. He really is (or at least was) a nice guy who wants to sell his products to the world; But at some point in time he began to realize that his company really didn't have enough to go around. Maybe his company too a huge PR scandal when his products became too expensive to make and thus couldn't be sold to the 99% that weren't in the upper class, causing the rest of the population to hate him and everything his company stands for. This hatred probably corrupts his worldview. He grows a disgust for the poor and needy, seeing them as gluttonous and greed y. He gives up on fixing everyone's problems; all he cares about now is helping the 1%. HIS one percent...
