At least with Feraligatr it felt like a fresher mon as a starter, Blastoise was all about bulk in both ends meanwhile Feraligatr had a much more physical build.
Typhlosion was the same as Charizard statwise, and Meganiums just poor mans Venusaur.
Like a lot of gen 2 mons
that weren't just branched evos from gen 1, they felt really halfassed and just put in for the sake of filler without much thought into stats or anything, with rare exceptions like Heracross.
